Proverbs 14:30 A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.
1. What is Jealousy & Envy ?
Jealousy – distorted attachment to self-perception, position, or power, stemming from a failure to trust God as the ultimate source of security and significance.
Jealousy is the fear of losing something you believe should be yours.
Jealousy says, “I’m afraid someone else is going to take what belongs to me.” (their attention, her affection, my revenue, my honor, my place in the inner circle)
Envy is a misdirected longing that emerges when desire is detached from gratitude and love toward God and what he has already given.
Envy is the resentment you feel when someone else has something you want.
Envy says, “I want what they have—and it bothers me that they have it.”
Jealousy fears losing what you have.
Envy resents what someone else has.
Envy resents what someone else has.

2. How does jealousy/envy cause rot?
Envy/Jealousy changes the way you see people, before it changes how you treat people.
Matthew 6:22-23 The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Envy/Jealousy makes enemies out of allies.

Jealousy doesn’t need facts to survive. It feeds on imagination.
Proverbs 27:4 Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?
Envy doesn’t only make you resent their blessings; it makes you neglect yours.
3. How can I get a tranquil heart?
tranquil – marpe (mar-pay) restored, healed, remedied
A jealous heart doesn’t need a remedy it needs a replacement.
