John || The Shepherd to the Shepherd
Shepherds were chosen, because a shepherd was coming.
Luke 2:8-13 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Ezekiel 34:22 – I will rescue my flock; they shall no longer be a prey. And I will judge between sheep and sheep. 23 And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. 24 And I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I am the Lord; I have spoken.
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
What “field” are you standing in tonight?
If Christ is here, I have no reason to fear.
Luke 2:10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
John 10:10 – The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
The anxious life isn’t just uncomfortable—it’s incompatible with the abundant life Jesus offers.
We miss the abundant life not because Jesus withholds it, but because anxiety crowds it out.
Christmas peace is not the absence of trouble.
It’s the presence of Jesus
Glory in the highest belongs to He who went the lowest.
Luke 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
John 10:17:18 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
