Hebrews 12:14-15a
Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God;

What is Holiness?
What does it mean to be Holy?

Strive – diókó
aggressively chase, like a hunter pursuing a prey

Ephesians 1:4a
even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.

Revelation 4:8
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

Holy – hagios
Set apart (by God or for God), different, sacred

Holy – hagios – Set apart, different, sacred (by God or for God), different, sacred
Holiness – hagiasmos – sanctification, the process of making or becoming holy, set                 apart, 

Holy – set apart for God, to be, as it were, exclusively his;

Holiness of God – “You are so different, set apart, sacred, revered”
Holiness of disciples of Christ – “I am different from the world. I have been set apart BY God and FOR God. I am exclusively yours!

2 Types of Holiness
Positional & Progressive (Behavioral)

Positional – Ephesians 1:4-5
Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should beholy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will

Progressive – 1 Peter 1:14-15
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

I won’t see God unless my life says “I AM ALL YOURS! “

Saving Grace & Sustaining Grace

2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God;

The sustaining grace of God is what empowers us to holy lives.

“I AM ALL YOURS”
