The Conflict We’ll Face – (18-20)
The Cause Behind It – (21-25)
The Courage We’ll Receive – (26-27)
The “Why” Behind The warning (16:1)
“You are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world.”
If our lives never create friction with the world, maybe we should ask whether our witness has become indistinguishable from it.
If Jesus says His followers should expect friction with the world, why are we often so determined to avoid it?
The great temptation of the modern American church: the desire to be accepted by the very world from which we’ve been chosen out of.
The greater danger is quietly becoming so comfortable in the world that we no longer stand out from it.

1. The Conflict We’ll Face (18-20)
John 15:18-19 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
John 7:7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.
John 15:20 – Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
“Jesus, thank you for being hated so I could be loved”
You may not hate Jesus, but do you do what haters do?

2. The Cause Behind It – (21-25)
John 15:21-23  But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin,[b] but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father also.
John 15:24-25 If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause.’

The disciples greatest danger isn’t death, it’s denial (apostacy).
