John 12:27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour.
John 5:19 – So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
John 8:20 – “And he (Father) who sent me (Son) is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
The HOUR = The meeting between the fear of his death and the fervor of his obedience to the Father.
John 12:28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I willglorify it again.”
The deepest reason Christians live for God’s glory is that God himself lives for His glory.
“Glorify your name” = Jesus articulating the “WHY” behind everything he has done, is doing, and will do.
John 7:18 , 8:29 , 8:50-51
John 8:50-51 Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. 51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.”
John 12:29-30 The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” 30 Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine.
1- God glorifies himself by judging the world through Jesus.
2- God glorifies himself by casting out the ruler of this worldthrough Jesus
3- God glorifies himself by drawing all his children to himself through Jesus.
4- God glories himself by shining as the light of the world through those who believe in Jesus
1- God glorifies himself by judging the world through Jesus.
John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.
Judgement- John 5:22-24 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
2- God glorifies himself by casting out the ruler of this world through Jesus
Casting out – Hebrews 2:14-15 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he mightdestroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
The Cross = The moment when satan isdethroned and christ is enthroned
Where am I living as though a defeated enemy still has authority over me?
3- God glorifies himself by drawing all his children to himself through Jesus.
John 12:32-33 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.
lifted up = hupsoó – exalted – John 3:14, John 8:28
EXECUTION & EXALTATION
“draw all people to myself” =
All people without distinction, not all people withoutexception.
What am I being drawn to more than Christ?
John 12:34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”
4- God glories himself by shining as the light of the world through those who believe in Jesus
John 12:35-36 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
The glory of God shines brightest through the cross of Christ—and everyone who sees that glory must decide what they will do with the light.
What will you do with the light?
