5.A Divine Declaration
1.THE DIVISION
John 10:19-21 The Jews who heard these words were again divided. 20 Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?”21 But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” “There was again a division among the Jews because of these words.”
Silence is a verdict.
Neutrality is rejection.
2. THE DARE
John 10:22-24 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
John 8:58-59Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59 So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.
3.DISBELIEF
John 10:25-26 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.
Slide – Believing reveals belonging.
Calvinist- SHEEP = ELECT
Arminian- SHEEP = FOLLOWERS
“You don’t follow me, because you don’t follow my Father”
John 8:19 You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also
John 8:42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here
John 8:47Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.
1 Timothy 2:3-6 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man[a] Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Psalm 145:8-9The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.9 The Lord is good to all and his mercy is over all that he has made.
4. WHAT WILL & WON’T BE DONE
John 10:27-28 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
It is God’s grip on you, not your grip on God, that determines your eternal security.
